A Child Turned Into A Soldier

Chapter 4: The Light

Chapter 4: The Light

POV: Aircraft Commander of AC-130 gunship

As I was waiting for Nolan's second jet to complete his gun run, my eyes were scanning the monitors to see which target to hit next. This cycle would go on for about 2 hours to create massive casualties, making the opposing sides moral plumet as well as creating utter chaos within the city.

We needed to make the ground invasion easier for our ground forces because urban combat was a nightmare to handle. Fighting in this type of environment is borderline impossible for the attackers. This is why we decided to bomb and gun down the entire city before sending in the ground force. Although this day might come to haunt us in the future, we have to stay strong and prove Volestians superiority.

"Second jet is forty seconds out, be advised starting from the third jet our missiles will be containing smoked tips so switch to thermal vision." Said Nolan through the radio, but my headset had a hard time picking it up. "Roger that, the third jet will be striking sector N43, it seems they are starting to use communication jammers so put heavy missile fire on that target area." I voiced out, hoping Nolan was at least able to pick up which sector to hit. "Ro....." Nolans staticky voice sounded through, but just with the first two letters I was able to tell he heard me.

I was very relieved considering if our communications were jammed I'd have to give up my planes position and start raining down hell myself. This would make the rescues team I have on board jobs much harder, since they'll have to jump out of my plane while dodging mana spells as well as gun fire.

"BRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRT" "BRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRT"

"TRRRRRRRRRRRRRRT" "TRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRT"

I heard the second jets guns and missiles once again rip through that entire sector like nothing and the amazing part was that I'm 15,000 feet above these jets with my plane also being quite loud if you're inside it, yet I can still hear those sounds.

I knew that nothing survived from that target which pained my heart since there were definitely civilian's takings shelter there hoping they'd get to see another day. The soldiers used that to their advantage though making church bunkers to hide and regroup their forces. We could not allow this since it had led to a massive amount of hit and run battles with our side usually on the losing one.

I took off my headset then used mana to light up a bright flame into my palm. This was a signal to my crew that communications were down. As all eight of the heads turned and looked at me, I used hands signs to tell them to switch to thermal mode on the third gun run and to scream at the top of their lungs if the hostage used the signal.

I then turned back putting my headset on and started to stare at the monitors in front of me. I had a lot of thoughts in my head yet decided to ignore them since I had more important things to accomplish. I just started to repeat the words of the leader of this operation, he gave us a very well spoken speech that resided in our hearts and made us want to do anything to win this battle.

'I see now why everyone calls him The Legacy'. I thought to myself while waiting for more lives to be taken....

POV: Aircraft Commander of AC-130 gunship 40 minutes later

"I still can't believe after the ninth gun run, they are still attempting to shoot them down." Reever said through the radio, communications were back up about 30 minutes ago and we've been relaying information since then.

"These people are nothing to scoff at Reever you should know this, we have been fighting them for over two years yet still have not claimed victory even though we are the strongest out of the five Human superpowers." I said, hoping to let him realize that this country truly did have strong people, they were just led by disgusting government officials.

"I understand that commander, but still they have attempted to shoot down these jets for so long yet haven't even come close to touching them, so why continue to waste time and effort?" Reever questioned since what he was taught at boot camp was the complete opposite of what these people were doing.

"It's simply bad leadership, not everyone has the luxury to be taught by amazing leaders and have freedom in their actions like we do." I stated then continued after a little pause. "They were forced into this war, some are children who don't know how the world works, others are disgusting animals who do things for their own sake, and some are actually good people at heart but were brain washed with propaganda from their own country." I said these words lifting the veil that was upon Reever, this is his first combat tour and has never really seen the more brutal side of this world. He was simply a young man who had wanted to make his family proud considering he came from a military background and now has to witness this massacre.

The city was in flames and absolute destruction was spread across the entire land. Smoke and dust filled the entire city and sky as well making it impossible to see unless you were a sensor. Our thermal vision only was able to make us see red dots on the screen which was now a map with every single sector on it.

The worst part has yet to even begin for these people though because artillery rounds are about to start flying in to hit the sectors which were either not targeted on the jet runs because of low priority or had high counts of military personal.

"Reever what's the estimated time on when the artillery crews are finished setting up?" I questioned since he had communications with the ground forces.

"Thirty to forty minutes sir, they stated that the convoy is taking longer than expected with all the landmines their squads had to disarm." Reever said with a small voice still staring at the map. Obviously his head was still not cleared from learning the truth about the world and the sights that are in front of his own very eyes.

'Damn it, of course problems start to add up now when the more crucial and grueling part of this mission has to take place." I thought to myself after thinking what tasks we still have to accomplish. 'Even the hostage is late to the extract point which makes matters worse, I pray that he trusts us enough to send the emergency signal we taught him if he thinks he can't make it.' I thought with my mind racing thinking of everything that has happened so far.

I started grabbing my thigh and squeezing it to calm my nerves down, the pressure that has built up is starting to get to me. 'Get yourself together dammit, my crew and fellow comrades need me.' I spoke to myself in my head to get rid of this anxiety I'm feeling. 'I am the leader of this damn crew and the decision maker, weakness is not aloud, and I shall adept to any situation thrown at me'. I stated to myself to bump up my pride. These are a couple of things that are smashed into your skull while going through boot camp and it is what makes everyone here special.

I took a deep breath and then slowly breathed out making my anxiety calm down and my thoughts were getting back in order. Then seemingly out of nowhere a long thin beam which were highly concentrated flames, shot two miles up in sky in the southern part of the city. Then wires of electricity started to wrap around the beam tightly around a mile up causing the beam to explode.

My eyes widened as much as they could while in a split second, I shoved every ounce of Ki into my brain and eyes making my thought process accelerate to a much faster pace while also making my eyes move at an absurd speed. Then in the other split second I slammed my hand onto a red button which opens the doors to the cargo space where the special forces team is located.

My eyes darted across in an instant to see the screen which showed the cargo space and a smile crept on my face. The moment the doors were opened each operator sprinted and jumped without a seconds hesitation as they were ready for this moment even though they've been standing in there for quite some time.

These men are not called soldiers, but instead are named operators. All of them are highly trained in specific scenarios to an extreme degree. You must be highly talented with mana and Ki while also having the mental strength of a psychopath. This special forces group are known for saving lives in the most desperate places on this planet and are given the nickname "The Fallen Angles".
