Celestial Peak

Chapter 3: Curiousness about the new era

News of Wang Ling gaining 'some intelligence' started spreading like wildfire in the capital city of the Azure Skies Kingdom.

"That wastes of a young master gained his own mind? Didn't doctors say that it will be impossible? Seems like the luck of General Wang Shu Qing is brimming!"

"Haha, the Wang Clan's young master gaining self-awareness is not our concern. I may be happy for the General but I won't expect much for a man who only learned how to eat by himself for a week."

"Wang Ling of the Wang family could talk and move on his own now? Now that's something interesting. But are you sure that this information is true?"

"Yes, I wouldn't believe even if others beat me to death. But word came from Physician Mo himself, so it must be true. He had been examining Wang Ling for a few days now and according to rumors, Wang Ling is a fast learner."

The whole capital was in an uproar, many had their own opinions about the situation but one fact lingered in the air. It was the perfect moment to kiss up to the Wang family.

Gifts from various households flooded the Wang family as they tried to show their goodwill. Although, they

have yet to see the young master, many of the Azure Skies noble families still handed out gifts.

A man becoming self-aware after nineteen years of silence may sound surprising. But, the nobles who handed out gifts couldn't care less about Wang Ling's well-being.

They were only giving gifts to Wang Ling so they can keep a healthy relationship with the Wang family.

No matter what others say, Wang Shu Qing was someone who possesses the power to shake the entire Kingdom. Although he only rose to prominence a couple of decades ago, he was a genius who single-handedly rebuilt the Wang family to where it was today.

Before Wang Shu Qing became a General, the Wang family was already in a decline with most of its immediate family members dead.

However, with the power of one man, Wang Shu Qing single-handedly carried the name of the Wang family on his shoulders.

Wang Shu Qing's tales were as glorious as the 'former Wang Ling' in the heart of the Azure Skies Kingdom citizens.

Wang Ling who was the center of this uproar, couldn't care less about the nobles' reactions.

The story of his father may sound brilliant, but he had grown tired of hearing them ten years ago. While Wang Ling's soul may have slept for nineteen years, most of the words and sight that his body came across all those times were inside his brain.

Wang Ling's previous self may not have any kind of sentience, but it had enough capabilities to record information it comes across.

However, Wang Ling has no interest in useless banter and talks of nobility. The only thing he has interest in was cultivation and knowledge about the changes in the realm.

The realm had changed. In comparison to the previous era, the spirit qi of today was more bountiful. The gap was clear.

Wang Ling's courtyard.

Sitting on top of his bed, Wang Ling observed the properties of the spirit qi around him and made conjectures on its effect if he cultivates now with his current body.

[Even without a [Spirit Qi Gathering Array] the denseness is truly magnificent.]

Wang Ling said to himself. He played and examined the spirit qi and tested it many times. While he was playing around, a knocked suddenly came from outside.

"Young Master, are you awake?"

It was Wang Yue's voice. Wang Ling smiled and answered back.

"You can come in."

After he said that, the door opened and a young girl entered his room. The girl was cute, she had big round eyes, rosy cheeks, flowing black hair and frail-looking limbs. Of course, the one who entered his room was his little sister, Wang Yue.

"It has been a month since Young Master first spoke, but Young Master's improvement is truly admirable." Wang Yue praised, before continuing, "Butler Sun said that we should go and have breakfast."

Wang Ling only smiled at what she had said. He got up from his bed and beckoned her to lead the way.

It had been a month since his soul awoke. For the past few days since he had awoken, he slowly managed to look like he was adapting to his surroundings.

In the second week, he made it look like he was able to move properly and his body was regaining strength. In the third week, he made it look like he could speak properly and even read.

Although his rate of supposed learning was quick, the two old experts said that what was happening was quite understandable.

Physician Mo said that Wang Ling was actually starting to catch up to his surroundings and is merely recalling what he had been taught in the past.

When Wang Ling heard the old man's idea, he supported it by saying that he was quite familiar with the contents of the books and the words he spoke were also familiar.

His exact words were: "I don't really… get it either but… every time I read or see something… I remember a lady calling herself my mother… teaching me… I am merely recalling her words."

Wang Ling's words were like a rock thrown into a river. The ripples it caused gave the two old farts ideas and proved what Physician Mo had proposed.

Of course, Wang Ling was sure about what he was talking about. In the past, about 14 years ago when he was 5. Wang Ling was sure that his mother taught him some words.

"My child, this is how you write."

"You read this as "Red River Border."

She also taught him some phrases and even manners.

"This is how you interact with a woman."

"This is how you court a woman."

"This is… a woman."

At that time, Wang Ling's soul and mind were still asleep so he was not able to appreciate her teachings. But now that he had regained his consciousness, he was feeling the warmth inside his heart.

Well, he did have some questions about the lesson his mother gave him, like; "Why was the lesson about speaking and manners connected to a woman?" this question lingered inside his head.

All in all, Wang Ling had been able to avoid questioning gazes from other people. He had also been getting more comfortable with this new life of his.

Wang Ling went out of his room and walked together with his sister. From time to time, his eyes will find itself watching his sister as he found her movement truly adorable. Aside from finding it cute, he was rather curious as to why he was not able to feel any kind of spirit qi around her.

[Does she not cultivate?]

He thought as he found it weird. Cultivation was a way of life in the Celestial Spirit Realm. Power was everything and those who do not have enough strength will get trampled by those who have the capability.

This kind of thought was taken from the past and was passed down to the current era. Even today, wars are waged all over the realm. With his father being a refutable General, Wang Ling found it weird why Wang Yue doesn't cultivate.

Unable to make any solid conjectures about the matter, he looked at Wang Yue and asked.

"Wang Yue, do you cultivate spirit qi?"

Wang Yue was taken aback to hear her big brother asks something like that. She thought he was aware of her unique condition and was making fun of her, but upon reflecting some more, she realized that Wang Ling was just curious.

"No, I don't, Young Master." Wang Yue shook her head disappointingly.

Wang Ling found her reaction kind of surprising and wanted to ask some more. But he thought that the topic was somewhat sensitive to the little girl, so he chose not to say anything.

He only smiled and gently placed his hand on Wang Yue's head.

"Why are you so sad? It's fine if you don't cultivate spirit qi. I am also the same as you." Wang Ling tried cheering her up. But when he turned his gaze over to Wang Yue, he found that her expression was even more downcast.

Seeing this, he was sure that there was something more going on about Wang Yue not cultivating.

[Is father not letting her cultivate? Or is it mother?

Either way, not cultivating isn't that bad...]

Wang Ling was well aware of the hardships when one delves into the world of cultivators. The bloodshed and tribulations he had experienced in the past was something that made him what he was today after all.

For someone to live comfortably in the world of cultivation, one would need strength. He was sure that his father was aware of this.

He was quite understanding of the matter, but he was also curious. In the end, he just thought.

[I'll just ask Butler Sun about this matter.]

With that in mind, he quietly walked towards the dining area so he could eat breakfast and it didn't take him long to reach it.

The dining area of the Wang family was designed with simplicity in mind.

It was a large room with no particular design and a set of table and chairs was neatly arranged in the middle of the room. The design had a refreshing feel to it that made Wang Ling enjoy the atmosphere.

"Young Master, there you are."

Butler Sun saw Wang Ling and flashed him a smile. Wang Ling and Wang Yue passed by Butler Sun and simultaneously sat down to eat.

Breakfast in the Wang family was always delicious. Today, his breakfast was a soup based on a savage beast called [Red Savage Turquoise] and a plate of [Savage Green Wyvern] meat, both savage beasts were sky root-level in their cultivation.

Food like this was always full of spirit qi that was beneficial to a cultivator. Wang Ling ate with great appetite and finished everything in front of him almost instantaneously. The meat of the Savage Green Wyvern was rather heavy but partnered with the soup base of the Black Turquoise made it easier to digest.

Wang Ling drank some tea before looking forward. In front of him was Wang Yue who was still eating her food. Ever since Wang Ling became self-aware, he had been eating with Wang Yue.

When he first ate with her, she was also the one who finished eating last. Not that she was a slow eater, no, far from it. It was because the serving of her food was at least five times more compared to Wang Ling.

It had to be noted that what Wang Ling had eaten was enough to make a cultivator full and have enough energy for the whole day, but it was clear that Wang Yue was different from normal people.

The serving she needed to consume was five times more compared to others. The concentration of energy inside the meal was not little, so one had to ask where she was using these energies and how can her frail-looking body withstand this abnormality.

It truly does make one wonder, if her ridiculous appetite was the reason why she was abandoned in the first place.

[Wang Yue is a pretty interesting lass.]

Wang Ling nodded his head with delight. It would seem that the family he was blessed with in this life was rather interesting in more ways than one.

A mother who teaches a five-year-old child how to court a woman and a little sister who has the capability of devouring five servings of food without any problem. In Wang Ling's eyes, they were interesting.

Finishing his meal, Wang Ling left the dining area. But before doing so, he asked Butler Sun about Wang Yue's situation regarding her cultivation.

"Young Master wants to know why the Young Miss is unable to cultivate?"

"Yes, from what I had read from the books in the family library, cultivation is something important. So I'm concerned why Yue is not cultivating."

Butler Sun was surprised to learn Wang Ling had any interest in learning this kind of matter, however, the old butler of the Wang family found it good that the Young Master was learning how to care about others.

[This is good. The masters will be delighted to learn that the Young Master is 'growing up' to be a good person!]

With the idea of 'nurturing' the kindness inside Wang Ling's heart and mind, Butler Sun chose to explain the details of Wang Yue to see if there would be a reaction on Wang Ling's part.

"You see, the Young Miss has a unique constitution. Her body is unable to absorb spirit qi, what's more, is that her qi pillars are sealed and most of her meridians are clogged. Both Physician Mo and Alchemist Yu had examined her before and they said the Young Miss must have suffered some kind of 'injuries' which resulted in traumas before she was found by the Master in the Southern Border Garrison…"

Butler Sun explained what he knew about Wang Yue with great detail. At first, he was trying to see the reaction Wang Ling will make, but halfway through the explanation, even he felt depressed for Wang Yue.

For such an unfortunate event to happen to such a young girl, it was truly too heartbreaking. Sneaking a peek how Wang Ling will react, Butler Sun noticed that his countenance remained unchanged.

[No reaction!?]

Before Butler Sun could even comment any further about Wang Ling's lack of reaction, the other party already spoke.

"Thank you for explaining the matter to me, Butler Sun."

Without wasting any more time about something as wasteful as speaking. Wang Ling left the dining area and went directly to the library. While walking, his mouth curved into a smile and thought of something interesting.

[Well, Wang Yue's condition will have to be put aside for now. I need to worry about myself first before others.]

Flashing a smile, Wang Ling reached the library and entered it in a good mood.
