Fallen Fate Online

Chapter 3 Appearance

"Hmm? What is this?" Zayne muttered with a confused expression, looking at one of the three cards.

[Warrior Card

This card contains standard warrior equipment, a simple one-handed sword, leather armor, and three pieces of rye bread].

"Are you suggesting I choose Class?" Zayne asked as he stared at the man.

"No. No one gets Class at the beginning of their journey. Each player will decide which path to take, though you're right to some extent." The man said calmly as he leaned back in his chair with his arms crossed.

"What do you mean? Isn't it just a set of gear then?" Zayne tilted his head in a confusion

"Well, look at this card." The man said and pointed to the left one. It was a Magician Card.

"If you have a staff that can shoot magical projectiles, a cloak with protection against the elements, and a magic hat that increases your magical damage, doesn't that make you a mage who just hasn't yet had any skills?" The man raised his head slightly as if he were saying the obvious.

"Yeah... I guess you're right." Zayne nodded faintly.

"So... What will you choose? You don't have much time left to decide." The man glanced at the clock, which was slowly approaching to make a full circle.

Zayne thought for a while. Even if it wasn't Class, standard equipment was very important, but he still couldn't make up his mind.

'Probably have to choose the Warrior, right? It's simple and practical, with a Mage there might be problems...' Zayne wondered, rubbing his chin with a thoughtful look.

The second card was the Archer, but Zayne didn't consider that as an option, for someone who had never held a bow in his hands would definitely be a mistake.

"How about this one?" Zayne asked as he touched the third card, the only one of the four that was upside down, "Why don't you show it to me?"

"Well, it's simple." The man touched the card and turned it over.

Zayne's eyes went wide as the card was blank, there was nothing in it.

"If you choose this card, your equipment at the beginning will be random. It's not a big deal, but you won't be able to control your fate. I figured it was too much for an insecure guy like you." The man said indifferently, twiddling his thumbs.

"Huh, but you did put it on the table, didn't you?" Zayne grinned, took the blank card, and walked past the man.

"You'll start in one of the random newbie villages. That's the end of it." The man said without turning around in Zayne's wake as if everything had gone as it should have originally.

"Not even wishing me luck?" Zayne reached the end of the hallway.

The man didn't answer anything, he just snapped his fingers and the floor fell beneath Zayne.

"Well, you won't need it." The man said, put the piece of paper aside, and said unemotionally into the void, "Next."

...

"Huh, that's not what I was expecting, but it turned out to be pretty fascinating." Zayne muttered with a slight smile looking at the massive blue numbers as there was less than a minute to go.

He touched himself, waved his arms in different directions, and noted, "I actually feel as if I'm in weightlessness. I hope the game world will be just as realistic."

[Welcome to the Fallen Fate Online!]

Whoooooooosh.

At the same time, the numbers turned into a blue stream that pulled Zayne inside. He seemed to be moving through a high-speed tunnel until he was blinded by the bright light of the sun, causing him to squeeze his eyes shut.

He appeared in one of several novice villages as well as dozens of other players. Gradually the blue flashes became more and more numerous, filling the vast world with new faces.

"Well, here I am." Zayne muttered with a slight smile as he looked around.

Some players were already in a hurry to take the quests, but Zayne wasn't going to rush. He wanted to take things slowly, as he was unaccustomed to it since he had never played a big RPG, especially in VR.

"So... First I have to look at my status, right? As far as I'm concerned I should just think about it." Zayne gave a thoughtful look and his gaze turned serious.

"Hmmm...? That should be pretty standard, to begin with, shouldn't it?" Zayne pondered trying to understand the game world, rubbing his chin thoughtfully.

Bam.

Suddenly someone pushed him away as a tall, broad-shouldered man strode forward. He turned around, stared at Zayne, and with a frown said, "Don't just stand there! If you're not going to play, don't bother the others! Ugh, I knew there'd be so many newbies here at the beginning!"

'What the hell...? Why is he so serious and isn't he a beginner too...?' Zayne said inwardly, not realizing that this was a beta tester.

He was in the center of the square in the village, so if he didn't step aside somewhere, this man wouldn't be the only one who would run into him since there were a huge number of people. Zayne was trying to figure out where to go when suddenly he saw an old man cleaning up next to a well. A yellow exclamation point (!) was shining above the old man.

'Everyone immediately ran to the merchants and blacksmiths, but isn't that a mistake? You can't get a good quest when dozens of players take it at once.' Zayne wondered before approaching the old man.

The old man looked at Zayne, put his broom aside, and leaned his hand on the well.

"Young man... I didn't expect the Traveler decided to come up to me." The old man said with a slight smile as he glanced at the people outside the stores.

"Traveler...? Are you talking about me?" Zayne pointed at himself in a confusion.

"Hah, of course, you seem a bit disoriented, unlike the others, though that's not surprising considering what happened to you." The old man spoke with a sorry look as he shook his head.

Zayne didn't understand anything yet as he had many questions for the old man, but he didn't have to say anything as the old man was no longer able to stop himself.

"Your world was destroyed, but fate favored some of you and brought you here. Now you are inhabitants of this world just like us... Agh, you are unlucky, but hopefully, many kind people in this world are ready to help you in your difficult situation..."

'Another world...?' Zayne muttered inwardly in disbelief.

Ding!

Suddenly several messages appeared in front of him.

[You were the first person to hear of the most important event in this world.]

[You received the Title - 'First Sight of a New Era']

[First Sight of a New Era

The eye of destiny is upon you. You have the opportunity for a chance encounter that may or may not change your life, it all depends on fate.]

Zayne stared at the notices wide-eyed, not understanding how this had happened. He just wanted to take the quest, but immediately got something unique.
