Chapter 16: Power system

"B: Mana.

She lifted her Ring finger and said:

"C: The basics of Pure-mana spell and the preliminary requirement for their release.

She lifted her pinky and said:

"D: Class weapons."

Her voice was pleasant to hear even Whittaker felt that. The attention of every student, male and female, was directed towards teacher Ruka as if captivated by her voice.

Her smart black eyes watched over every student and she was pleased that every student was concentrated on the studies.

Teacher Ruka started explaining, "Students be attentive and listen carefully. I will start explaining to you all about the basic Mage ranking and their power level."

"Mages are divided into three basic ranks. They are D-rank, E-rank, and lastly F-rank.

"An F-rank mage can use F-rank spells and has a power level between 1-2.

"An E-rank mage can use E-rank spells and has a power level between 2-4.

"A D-rank mage can use D-rank spells and has a power level between 4-7.

"Currently, all of you are F-ranked mages with a power level between 1 to 2. You can learn F-rank spells. Students, do you understand?"

Mages are those that had awakened the class weapon called "Spellbook". A newly awakened mage has 0 mana but as they breathe, the mana present in nature starts to fill up their body. Anyone that possesses a spellbook, even a newly awakened mage, can absorb mana. Depending on the rank of the spellbook, a person mana point can range from 10-100.

Normally, it takes a day or more for 100 units of mana to fill up the body but Whittaker took less than a minute, moreover, he already has 250 units of mana in his body. His power level has already reached 1.25 but no one in the classroom knew.

"Yes, teacher!" All of the students bobbed their heads, including Whittaker who was gazing at the screen in front.

‹Main Quest activated: ‹Advance into an E-rank mage›

‹Rewards: 200 XP, E-ranked spellbook›

Surprised at the sudden notification, he didn't lose attention and listened carefully to what Teacher Ruka was saying. She had continued the next topic "Mana"

"As you all already know, Mana is a form of energy that exists in nature and within the body of every mage. This energy has existed in our world since the beginning of time and is found everywhere including in our current environment. Remember, Mana is the most important aspect in the life of a mage as every mage utilizes it to cast spells.

"Mages can absorb Mana just by breathing but the amount they can absorb varies according to their training time. The amount of mana a mage possesses determines his power level. For example, A mage that has 500 units of mana has a Power Level of 1.50 and is classified as an F-rank mage. Students, if you want to ask any questions related to this topic or the next ones then do not hesitate to stand up and state it." Teacher Ruka announced so that the students won't feel shy about speaking out their thoughts.

Ruth and everyone else in the classroom had somewhat of a distinguished background and some of the students in this class are repeaters. They had learned about mana and related information in their childhood so they didn't ask any question. Whittaker also understood all of it and this newfound information has cleared up most of his confusion.

Though, a young purple-haired boy around the same age as Whittaker stood up and asked, "Teacher, how do we increase the amount of mana that we can possess." His voice was feeble and shaky but everyone heard what he said.

Whittaker heard the boy question and realized that he didn't know about the normal ways a mage utilize to increase power level but he didn't feel any curiosity to know about it, as with the use of the system, he could advance anyway.

The teacher happily glanced at Yato and replied with a smile, "The amount of mana a mage possesses can be increased through four ways. The most basic way is to meditate. The second is combatting against monsters or sparring with fellow mages and gain experience. After that comes eating mana cores that monsters drop after they die, and drinking mana increasing elixirs that a potion-maker can create."

She was happy because the class was more lively when students actively engage in the study and ask what they are curious about.

"Thanks for answering my questions teacher, " Yato bowed while expressing his gratitude, then he sat down on his seat. He was a noble yet didn't know anything about mana and magic. His knowledge about this subject was as blank as Whittaker. It's because he wasn't treated well in the family and didn't receive any education related to mana and magic before the Class awakening ceremony.

His malnourished face, sunken eyes and slender body that seemed to only have skins and bones showed that he wasn't well off.
