Hard to Deceive

Chapter 8: A Day Seemed Like A Year

It was as if startled by the noise, Sang Yan turned his head slightly and lazily opened his eyes.

His eyes met with hers.

The atmosphere was extremely awkward.

Sang Yan didn’t say a word. He quietly looked at her with his bright eyes that didn’t look confused even though he just woke up.

His eyebrows and eyes were extremely attractive. He had slightly hooded double eyelids and slanted eyes that always looked indifferent and ice-cold.

At this very moment, Wen Yifan had the feeling that he would sneer at Su Haoan for mentioning “White Moonlight”.

Wang Linlin took the initiative to ask, “Do you know each other?”

Su Haoan, “Yes, we were high school classmates.”

Wen Yifan looked back and was planning to take advantage of the situation to bring this topic to a stop. However, Wang Linlin naively asked, “What does white moonlight mean? Does it mean that your friend once wooed Yifan but failed?”

Su Haoan foolishly laughed, “Yes, yes.”

“……”

No wonder these two are a couple.

In such a situation, Wen Yifan couldn’t act innocent and muddle through it anymore.

She undoubtedly realized that the masks that they had been putting on by tacit understanding were torn into pieces by the two people in front of them at this very moment.

She didn’t have any hopes for Sang Yan to say anything to clean up the mess.

Knowing that he always had a big ego, Wen Yifan calmly said, “Really? Why didn’t I know about this? Su Haoan, have you remembered wrongly?”

“How could I? You two…” In hindsight, Su Haoan realized something was wrong, “Hey, are both of you embarrassed or what? Come on, it’s been several years, both of you are still holding on to it? I was just bringing it up as an interesting story.”

Wang Linlin, “How long have both of you not seen each other?”

“I don’t know, it’s hard to count on the spot. Wen Yifan, you stayed in our school for a year, right?” Su Haoan added, “I remember you transferred to some other high school when you were in freshman or sophomore year.”

Wen Yifan answered seriously, “I transferred during the second semester of sophomore.”

“Then it should be seven or eight years ago.” Su Haoan noticed Sang Yan was silent the whole time, so he added, “Sang Yan, why are you keeping quiet? It’s been seven or eight years! Are you still dwelling on it?”

Sang Yan looked down and ignored him.

“Awesome.” Su Haoan surrendered and grumbled, “Wen Yifan, you don’t have to worry about him. You know what he’s like, his eyes are literally on his f*king head. I think he thinks that you were blind back then when you had no feeling towards him. But he doesn’t know how annoying he was……”

Wang Linlin interrupted him, “Geez, focus when you drive, don’t talk about your friend like that.”

“……”

Su Haoan held back what he was about to say, he frowned and looked at Wang Linlin.

“You have to concentrate when you drive, otherwise it will be dangerous.” Wang Linlin was aware of his emotions, and she immediately added, “Don’t be upset, I was just reminding you, you can continue to say what you want to say.”

Su Haoan smiled, “I’m not upset, thanks for reminding me, dear.”

They arrived at the restaurant before they knew it.

Wen Yifan couldn’t say that she wanted to leave since they had already reached their destination. After all, Sang Yan didn’t say anything. If she did, she would appear to be more concerned about the past and couldn’t even have a meal with him.

It takes about an hour for a meal, time will pass.

However, what Wen Yifan didn’t expect was that the “friend” which Wang Linlin mentioned previously was not just Sang Yan.

It was a group of friends.

They had pre-booked a private room in the restaurant, which was full of people at that moment.

Wen Yifan was brought by Wang Linlin, logically, she should be sitting with her. However, the remaining four seats were in pairs, Wang Linlin decisively left her alone and sat with Su Haoan.

Wen Yifan was forced to be seated with Sang Yan.

From the way it seemed, it was like Wen Yifan was brought by Sang Yan.

A man yelled, “Sang Yan, you brat, when did you start going out with someone?”

Su Haoan snorted, “Don’t talk nonsense, is this idiot worthy? This is our ex-classmate, the prettiest girl in our high school! Qian Fei, don’t you remember? Didn’t you study in Nanwu High School as well?”

“Of course I do, she’s Wen Yifan. And I was in the same class with your friend, Zhong Siqiao.” A chubby man sitting next to Sang Yan looked at Wen Yifan and smiled shyly, “I saw she posted a photo of her with you in her moments.”

Wen Yifan smiled and nodded.

Immediately, another man said, “D*mn, Fatso, why are you blushing? Aren’t you afraid that your partner will kill you?”

Sang Yan didn’t participate in their conversation, even though his name was constantly mentioned, he seemed like he heard nothing. Upon hearing this, he finally had some reactions, he looked towards the direction of Qian Fei.

Su Haoan, “Isn’t he always like this? He can’t speak properly when he sees a pretty girl.”

Wang Linlin was upset when she felt neglected, she began to join their conversation, “What? Why are you saying someone else is pretty in front of me?”

After a few seconds of silence, Su Haoan coaxed, “Baby, why did you interpret it like this? Don’t be jealous.”

……

The food in this restaurant was taking a long time to serve, the group of men were having small talks for a long time, and the food was yet to be served.

However, the conversation topic was gradually diverted to something else, their interest in her arrival as a stranger gradually faded.

Wen Yifan was relieved, and she unintentionally glanced at Sang Yan.

Sang Yan didn’t participate in their conversation, he was looking down playing with his phone, and he seemed to be interested in anything.

He barely answered even if someone called his name.

Wen Yifan looked down and drank some water.

She felt out of place here.

After a while.

Wang Linlin suddenly pecked on Su Haoan’s cheeks, she got up and went to Wen Yifan. She grabbed Wen Yifan’s wrists and grinned, “Yifan, let’s go to the washroom with me.”

Wen Yifan stood up. She silently took her bag when she spotted it on her chair.

The both of them went into the washroom with the help of notice signs.

Wang Linlin took out her lipstick to retouch before she casually said, “You rejected Sang Yan before?”

Wen Yifan didn’t answer.

Wang Linlin assumed she admitted it, and said in amazement, “Do you know the ‘OverTime’ bar near our office? That bar was his joint venture with my boyfriend and another guy.”

“……”

“He’s such a good catch, he’s tall, handsome, and rich. Why did you reject him?” Wang Linlin shook her head, unable to understand, “You’ve set your standards really high. But it’s been so many years, I think he doesn’t have any feelings towards you anymore by his behavior just now.”

“Let the past be the past.” Wen Yifan smiled, then, she took out her phone to have a look, “By the way, Linlin, I’m very sorry, I have to leave now. Senior Qian requested me to hand in a manuscript to her tonight. Please help me to inform your friends.”

Wang Linlin was slightly upset, “It’s just a meal, it won’t take you too much time.”

“She’s in a hurry.” Wen Yifan added, “I don’t dare to delay, I’m still in my probation period.”

“Oh, alright.” Wang Linlin pouted, “Then, be careful on your way home, I’ll let them know.”

“Alright, thanks Linlin. See you tomorrow.”

After Wang Linlin left, Wen Yifan turned on the tap and washed her hands. She was not sure if she was making Wang Linlin upset, but she really didn’t want to stay in a gathering without any acquaintances.

Wen Yifan was relieved, she dried her hands with a paper towel.

Wen Yifan ran into Sang Yan, who came out from the men’s washroom when she went out. This time, he didn’t ignore her as Wen Yifan expected.

Sang Yan stopped, he had no expressions. He was looking down at her.

Wen Yifan somehow felt that this scene was familiar.

This reminded her of the reunion with him in the hallway of ‘OverTime’.

However, the situation this time was completely different from that time.

It seemed like it was starting all over again.

Back to how a development should go.

Judging from him being silent for the whole night, Wen Yifan felt that there was no need to mention their previous meetings. She nodded at him and politely greeted him as if she had met him for the first time in many years.

“Long time no see.”

Unexpectedly, Sang Yan seemed to have no intentions of maintaining their seemingly peaceful relationship. He stared at her as if he was scrutinizing her, and casually repeated, “Long time no see?”

His tone of voice made Wen Yifan question whether he was asking a question or stating a fact.

Then, Sang Yan added, “It’s only been a few days since the New Year’s Eve.” He paused, and slowly tore up their masks.

“Does a day seem like a year when you don’t see me?”
