Merged Soul: Reincarnated in a Dark World

Chapter 22: Military safe hold.. beware of the Colonel

Chapter 22: Military safe hold.. beware of the Colonel

Seven trucks stopped before a tall metal wall, eight meters tall with a huge metal gate. The gate made cranking metallic noises as it opened, soldiers in dark silver exo-suits marched out and examined the vehicles.

Small round balls were sent into the air as they scanned the trucks with green rays, the dull sound of the door opening rang as Roland jumped down.

"What are you doing? I've long transmitted the information that we have a critically wounded soldier, this is a waste of time" his deep voice had a ting of anger mixed in it.

The soldiers stopped their actions and saluted, one of them stepped forward and said with the best polite voice he could muster "the Colonel ordered for the convoy to be properly searched, and the chip should be handed to us"

"What!" Roland exclaimed, his brows began to knit and his gaze turned cold "it's our mission to strictly guard that chip till it reaches the stronghold, there was no order that listed handing over. NOW! get out of the way" the anger in his voice has raised a few notches higher.

"I'm sorry, but i can't accept that order" the soldier raised his gun and pointed it at Roland, the others also followed which resulted in Roland's eyes contracting. What was Noah up to?.

The top of four trucks opened and the four Gunners came out with their guns ready, this time they wore no helm and 5 face was visible, his savage grin gave the soldiers a tingling feeling, one look was enough for them to know that it would not be a good choice to mess with such a man.

"Captain please let us do our job" the soldier pleaded, there won't be a good ending if they opened fire on each other.

Roland frowned, he thought for a while before nodding "but you have to call the medics first, I need to see Amelia tended to" he listed his demands.

"I'm sorry captain but I can't do that, we have to follow protocol" the soldier shook his head in refusal.

"I said we would stay!, but Amelia has to be tended to, she will probably die in minutes and you're talking about protocol!!" Roland's patience had reached its limits, he was now sure that someone was messing with him, he would have endured if he was in a normal situation but he was not and that's the problem.

He had sent information about their heavily wounded soldier and till now not one medic came out, it was definitely a set up and he vividly knew who was messing with him.

"Get out of the way or nothing will end peacefully today!" The threat within Roland's words were thick enough to be felt by the soldiers. The soldier talking to Roland gulped fearfully, even the others pointing their guns were sweating profusely, the situation was really tense.

A wrong word from the soldier and this would turn into a battle, the white wolves were a famous team with clean and perfect record of completing all their missions, they were known to be a team filled with exceptional and weird people, exactly like the scary man who had a mad grin smeared on his face, his expression was really creepy.

The soldier stared at Roland, although his eyes were firm, his heart was shaking.

Roland Osborne; a famous figure in the military and the only one to reject the position of a Colonel three times, he was one of the most strict officers in the military and his anger... well he was about to face one.

"Entrance accepted" The soldier heard a robotic voice from his COM, he never felt so relieved, he stepped aside.

"You may proceed captain"

Roland glared at him coldly and entered the truck, the loud sound of the engine echoed and they moved into the safe hold, the 5 looked around as buildings began to appear, the number and types of military vehicles were numerous, soldiers armed in exo-suits numbered in thousands as they marched in unison, the heavy metallic sounds of their feet colliding with the paved road rang loudly, they were singing as they marched.

5 looked ahead and saw his true love; Mechs, hundreds of dark blue G5 Mechas with the image of the sun imprinted to their chest, stood in a perfect row. The visual impact they gave off was awe inspiring, they were weapons made with the best technology. They were the latest mech invention, with an Amory way better than the norm and amazing defense capabilities. These new zitro powered Mechs are weapons of mass destruction.

These combat robots were 5 obsession ever since he was a kid, but his eyes could only watch their glory as he was banned from piloting them, the first time he piloted one he destroyed it, he was so caught up with his insane feeling of satisfaction that he didn't realize he had overused it, the controls for the mecha were complex and needed sharp thoughts and fast reflexes but he was kind of a dumb man who only love to cause destruction.

While the mech was a perfect weapon for him, he couldn't operate them, he had a record of five destroyed mechas that couldn't be repaired and had to be recycled to prove that.

The asphalt road was pretty wide as it had to accommodate all kinds of military vehicles, unlike the stronghold, the safe hold didn't have a dome so they had to adjust to the dark gloomy sky of which most soldiers had done perfectly.

The lights were dim, using bright lights like the ones at the stronghold was asking for death.

The trucks reached their spot and parked, the third truck opened immediately and Angel pushed the unconscious Amelia down the hatch, she hadn't even taken four steps when medics rushed and took Amelia from her, immediate check ups were going on, as they were moving towards the hospital.

"She's lost a lot of blood" one of the nurses said with a frown.

"Vitals are really low, she needs to be operated on and fast" a man urged them to increase their pace while he monitored Amelia's vitals through the screen on their stretcher.

When they closed the hospital, the glass door slid open and they walked into the building, it was fully colored white, there was no other color even the chairs were white.

"We don't have the luxury of moving up, we'll do it here, which room is empty?" The doctor inquired solemnly. He had to do the surgery at the ground floor because Amelia's vitals were reducing at an alarming rate, every second was precious.

"The OR at the right has been prepared," a nurse replied.

"That's good!" He smiled at her and led the others to the room, Angel was told to stay in the lobby, she stood and watched as her dying best friend disappeared from her sight.

They moved Amelia to the bed after removing her exo-suit, the AI had done a great job slowly down her blood flow, which directly reduced the blood loss and kept Amelia alive till she was brought to the safe hold.

Two doctors wore their masks and gloves, one went towards the surgical table, while the other set up the monitor and checked her vitals.

Soon they began the operation, it wasn't just about removing the metal, the metal had also critically damaged some of her internal organs, her lungs being the prime.

And because the metal was really hot when it struck Amelia, her flesh had somehow glued to it and would require either cutting the surrounding flesh or pulling it out forcefully, the surgeons had to make a decision and they had to make it fast, but they were in a bind, both actions will increase blood loss and that could directly lead to Amelia's death.

Time was ticking and they were still hesitating, the helping nurse knew Amelia could die at any second so she shouted "just pull it out, we'll handle the after effects, if she's lucky, she'll survive"

"Luck!, we don't work with that word" one of the surgeons scowled.

"Well you have to work with it now or you will explain to that angry captain outside that you just couldn't come to a conclusion before she died, so you technically did nothing" she hollered with a red face.

The two surgeons stared at each other and went to work.

••

"I'll need her in my team, she's just what I need as our personal medic" Roland's lips curled up as he stared at the nurse through a huge screen, the man standing close to him chuckled.

"I do not know why you don't choose normal people into your company"

"It's because normal people don't have what it takes to survive the outside world and I have records to prove that" Roland's deep voice reverberated in the man's ears, he smiled and turned to Roland, he stared directly into Roland's eyes and smirked "you know that the probability of that girl surviving is less than five percent"

"Four percent is there isn't it?" Roland retorted with a question.

The man snorted "you also know that Noah isn't done with you and he is a dangerous man"

"I've been dealing with dangerous things ever since I was fifteen and trust me, compared to what I've seen, Noah isn't dangerous at all, he's just a soft fat ball of meat who enjoys his authority, sitting behind the safe walls of the HOLD" Roland snickered.

"You better warn him, because the next time what happened a while back repeats, he'll have my muzzle pressed tightly against that fat face of his" Roland threatened with an icy cold aura.
