My Last Hunt

Chapter 21: A Level Zero's Struggle (12)

A Level Zero's Struggle (part 12)

The leader looked toward the youth and scrutinized from head to toe.

Then he shook his head.

"He is in no way a level one, so tell me how could a zero get a level three rare weapon, are you daydreaming?" the leader was irritated now.

He knew this chaser very well, so he knew that he was probably knitting a trap around the youth to get another benefit.

"Would you believe me if I say that through this weapon, the youth killed a level two monster in front of my eyes?" the chaser gave the lsat information he withheld to make the leader interested.

And it really picked the interest of the leader.

"Is that so?" he solemnly looked toward the youth.

"Indeed," the chaser added in and he gestured toward Qiao to come.

Qiao was not expecting that the leader of this team would bother him. He walked and reached near them.

"Young man, why don't you help us in hunting this monster and lend us your rare weapon for once?" the leader came straight to the point in one go.

Qiao looked around at the struggling chasers.

He could not hand over his only weapon, right? If he suddenly found he was in problem, how he was supposed to fight back empty handed?

"I can't lend my weapon," he refused straight away to give up on weapon just because he was alone and they were many.

Weapon should never be handed over just like that.

The leader was bewildered to hear, he was already very considerate when asking politely.

"How arrogant, are you still a zero?" he looked at Qiao angrily.

In a normal situation, a zero should be following whatever he was asked by the leader. But what was with this zero, his level of arrogance and ignorance were different from normal brawlers.

"Where does your confidence come from to have such an attitude in front of me?" he was getting angrier now. In the middle of the mess, this zero was showing his attitude which really made him want to strangle him.

"I am sorry but I don't intend to leave myself empty handed by giving away my weapon just because I am a zero," Qiao spoke in dry mood.

He was not getting good vibes from the present situation and when he observed the chaser, he seemed to be planning something in his head.

"I am a level two chaser, do you really think you can run away alive if I decide to chase you?" the leader was ready to burst now.

He walked a step ahead and Qiao step back.

The chaser was happy, he finally could see his plan working very well. The way the leader was glaring, it was apparent that he had decided the fate of this zero.

In his eyes the zero was already dead.

Being a zero and offending a level two was rarely heard off.

If they happened to hear, it was not because the zero was audacious but the senior would be arrogant still rare occurrence.

"You better decide what kind of death you want to meet," the leader laughed but his laughter stopped in the middle when he heard the loud scream of his underling.

The monster had finally lost its reasoning and went on a rampage and a chaser was immediately trampled underneath it. Now it was the turn of the another.

It was dreadful sight.

The leader immediately ran to help his men. It was not easy to collect some reliable chasers and make a team for hunt.

A chaser who does not have his team would always rely on the guild to provide mission and this was one of the most terrible choice. As soon as the chasers reached second level, their first priority was to make their own team. The stronger hunters would be leading their hunt until the team slowly reach higher levels or got killed during missions.

To have a team of its own looked fascinating but it was dangerous too. When a team decides on a random hunt, they only look at the level of the monster and they lack the necessary information regarding the monster which usually results in terrible deaths or severe loses.

Qiao looked toward the chaser who was plotting against him and shook his head.

He wanted to give him another chance but it seemed that he was a hopeless case.

The chaser hurriedly followed the leader because if he stayed behind the leader, he might not get to grab the spoils on this guy that he wanted so bad.

After losing a whole level, he was not as helpful but he could not tell them that he lost his level.

Whoever designed and prepared these tokens for chasers must be above the level eight no lesser or perhaps a Hunter King. He had created something wonderful that allowed hunters to keep track of their points and plan how much more they needed to level up.

Low level-hunters would never understand the thought process of the top tier hunter who had created the level token. Perhaps it was made in an attempt to be able to store their points so that in a sever or fatal situation they can survive by losing a level but still save themselves.

With these fascinations low level hunters aspired reach higher levels, they wished to live longer and prosper, to become more powerful.

But this chaser was currently hiding his loss.

And if the other leader were to find out, he might take his life. He could never be sure when greed could make another betray even his close friends.

So right now, he had to keep up the façade that he was still a powerful level two hunter and then grab the riches on this youth's body. Later then he will be able to buy himself a stronger weapon and regain his level. Who would then dare to find trouble with him?
