Slowly Falling For Changkong

Chapter 09

Chapter 09

That Person will be in the Heavens in the Future!

Because Xiang ChangKong said such a thing, he ended up tutoring Xiang Nuan for the rest of the afternoon.

These functional questions that Xiang Nuan found so hard to understand were as simple as adding and subtracting to Xiang ChangKong.

Ever since she could remember, Xiang Nuan knew that Xiang ChangKong was very smart. He had always taken first place in any competition and ranking. Scattered amongst her childhood memories was her brother bringing home all kinds of trophies. She had always been proud of having such an amazing brother, even if neighbors or relatives would tease her about it from time to time.

To her, their division of labor was apparent: Xiang ChangKong was responsible for being smart, and she was responsible for being cute.

Until that incident occurred.

Xiang ChangKong raised his head to ask Xiang Nuan about the next topic when he saw her look dazed. Knocking her head with a pen, he asked: “Did you not understand? Do you want me to explain things again?”

Xiang Nuan saw him take another piece of draft paper, intending to show the relevant formulas again. With a bitter heart, she whispered: “Brother, you’re really not going to continue your studies?”

The pen writing out a formula suddenly stopped, the nib slowly smudging black ink onto the paper. Xiang ChangKong put down the pen, looked towards his sister, and smiled: “You should be the one to continue studying. I don’t have to go since I’m already plenty smart.”

“But…”

“I need to go make dinner, go ahead and complete the rest of this.” He patted his sister’s head and then left.

Looking at the steps he wrote on the draft paper, she realized that the solution became obvious. Any average person who looks at these formulas would usually get a headache, but when shown these steps, one could understand it all in a glance. Xiang Nuan was still looking at the paper stunned when her cellphone vibrated.

Shen Lin: QQ just told me that your birthday is coming up. Here’s a cake for you, I wish you a happy birthday.

(T/N: QQ is like a messaging app. I guess they also have that feature like Facebook where they tell you when your friend’s birthday is coming soon.)

Xiang Nuan’s heart jumped. Shen Lin was the study committee member for their class. With his good grades, he would always rank first in their grade. He also had a pure and clean look, with a refreshing haircut and a pair of frame-less glasses perched on his nose. He looked very gentle.

Xiang Nuan had some hazy feelings towards this classmate of hers, but she had never voiced them. She had never expected for him to pay attention to her birthday. For the first time in her life, she thanked QQ for adding this kind of feature.

Xiang Nuan: Thank you [adorable]

(T/N: I’m guessing the adorable part is a sticker)

Shen Lin: I sent the cake. It said you’ll get it on the day of your birthday.

Xiang Nuan: “…..”

Well, a cake’s a cake, even if it’s the automatic system kind. Thinking that her relationship with Shen Lin was just that of ordinary classmates, Xiang Nuan felt that a system cake was fine. So she calmly accepted the ‘cake’ that would only be sent on her birthday.

(T/N: Alright, I don’t use QQ here so I’m just guessing, but I think there are two ways to get virtual cake. Automatic sending or choosing and sending it out yourself. Automatic sending is like having the computer send a generic happy birthday greeting rather than someone writing the greeting themselves.)

Xiang Nuan: En, en.

After waiting a while, Shen Lin didn’t reply, so she put down her phone and went back to her functions.

Her actual birthday was on the day after tomorrow, on Monday. When she logged on QQ early Monday morning, she received several birthday wishes from her friends, all in similar formats.

But she kept going back to the cake Shen Lin had chosen for her. The cake could be called very chic, and there were words in bright red written on it: Five years of college entrance examinations, three years of simulation.

Xiang Nuan felt that Shen Lin wasn’t wishing her a happy birthday, but was instead of wishing for her to make significant progress in her studying.

Alright, alright, this is also in line with his academic personality.

She sent Shen Lin a ‘thank you’ then thought of her own brother. Her brother too….has been single for a long time now….sigh.

When she arrived at the canteen to buy breakfast, she had surprisingly received a reply from Shen Lin. He even sent a red envelope containing 6.66 yuan.

(T/N: virtual red envelope. 6 is a lucky number in China)

Although the message attached says ‘I wish you get into a good university.’

How dependable.

Looking at the red envelope on her screen, Xiang Nuan couldn’t help but laugh out loud. She may just make it to university. And maybe, there’s still hope for her brother to actually find a girlfriend.

Xiang ChangKong was actually much more popular than Xiang Nuan gave him credit for. There were plenty of girls that secretly liked him during his school days, and even now, as he worked in the takeaway company, the receptionist secretly finds him attractive.

Of course, Xiang ChangKong was totally clueless about all of this.

At around noon, orders started to pick up. Xiang ChangKong was dispatched, and he began to plan his route as usual. His first delivery was to a nearby financial company. He passed the customer details to a nearby office worker who met him by the door. The worker looked at the customer details, then awkwardly asked: “Uh, which one is the ‘president’s little fairy’?”

The office workers nearby couldn’t help but laugh. The little fairy herself was red-faced as she raised her hand: “That’s me, I’ll be troubling you.”

As her colleagues began to tease her, Xiang ChangKong remained unruffled and just brought her takeaway over: “Have a nice meal.”

“Thank you.” The little fairy was lovely and polite.

As he turned to leave, Xiang ChangKong’s arm was suddenly pulled. He thought it was the little fairy, but when he looked back, he was stunned.

It was Zhao Di, a classmate from university.

Zhao Di was also looking at him with surprise, and laughed incredulously: “ChangKong, it really is you! I almost thought I was mistaken!”

His voice was particularly loud, and the joy on his face was evident, as if he had missed this long-lost classmate of his.

Xiang ChangKong’s expression changed slightly, and he subconsciously avoided Zhao Di’s eyes.

“Why are you delivering takeaways?” Zhao Di pulled him towards his colleagues without hesitation: “Let me tell you, this guy here is a top talent, flying professional seed player in A University! The future star of plane designers! Ah, but why are you delivering takeaways? Trying to experience life?”

The office was quiet, and everyone’s eyes automatically fell on Xiang ChangKong.

Clenching his jaw, Xiang ChangKong silently pulled his arm out of Zhao Di’s grip and turned away.

The atmosphere in the office remained tense. The little fairy who ordered the meal, with chopsticks in her hands looked at Zhao Di and said: “Zhao Di, don’t you think you’ve gone a little too far?”

Zhao Di didn’t really care, and instead took a photo of Xiang ChangKong with his phone.

Xiang ChangKong left without a word. As he passed through the door, he found Cheng Peng standing there with another delivery in his hand. His eyes were big and round, and he had an awkward expression.

Xiang ChangKong quietly went around him and walked out. Cheng Peng finally snapped out of his daze and quickly said: “Hello, I have a delivery for a little fairy.”

A girl walked up to him and silently took the food. After successfully delivering the meal, Cheng Peng rushed out to try and catch up to Xiang ChangKong.

As the elevator doors started to close, at the very last second, the door was stopped.

As the doors slowly opened, Xiang ChangKong looked down at his feet. Cheng Peng entered the elevator and stood next to him: “Just now, I heard that guy saying you’re learning how to design airplanes, ah?”

Although he did think that Xiang ChangKong wasn’t an ordinary person, Cheng Peng didn’t think he’d be this extraordinary!

Cheng Peng anxiously continued: “Why are you doing deliveries, ah? The aviation industry needs you!”

Xiang ChangKong continued to remain silent. Cheng Peng saw that he was in a bad mood, so he tried to comfort him; “Don’t bother with that person just now, he was obviously just jealous of you! His grades certainly aren’t as good as yours, he’s probably a second-eldest child!”

(T/N: The second-eldest child thing is also a euphemism for dick lol Cheng Peng is saying he probably can’t compare to ChangKong’s grades and the length of his *ahem*)

As soon as his voice fell, the elevator doors opened. Xiang ChangKong immediately walked out, not turning back. Cheng Peng rushed to follow him: “Now you’re just bullying me with your long legs….”

In the end, he could only watch as Xiang ChangKong got on his scooter and drove away. Standing there, Cheng Peng sighed, then took out his phone. Pressing speed dial, the call soon connected and he immediately started talking: “My dear wife, last time I asked you to help a brother of mine find a girlfriend. Let’s put that on hold.”

Cheng Peng’s wife was puzzled: “Oh? Have they found someone already?”

“No, I just don’t think any of your friends are good enough for him.”

The voice on the other end of the phone suddenly rose: “Hey! We didn’t diss your guy for being a takeaway boy, why does he get to abandon this first?”

“What takeaway boy,” Cheng Peng looked towards the direction Xiang ChangKong left. “He’ll be way up in the heavens in the future!”

(T/N: ChangKong will be way up in the social ladder in the future/he has a bright future)

As the cold wind blew past his battery scooter, Xiang ChangKong gradually calmed down. It seems like every time he encounters something terrible, he ends up meeting Cheng Peng. Last time he met him, this time bumped into him too. Xiang ChangKong exhaled as he parked his scooter outside Wolong Kitchen.

Xu Lian (Madam), signature chicken leg meal set.

Looking at this line on his list, Xiang ChangKong’s taut mouth relaxed into a slight smile.

Always eating chicken legs. Even if it came with rice, it’s still not a very balanced meal.

Meanwhile, the Ms. Xu Lian who had ordered the chicken set, was still busy with work. Ever since her first collaboration with Sugar Honey Heart, the two stores had continued to cooperate from time to time. This time, Sugar Honey Heart’s second boss was messaging her about a new collaboration project.

Boss Fu: Xu Boss, are you free? We have another promotion idea, that is, if a customer spends 50 yuan in our dessert shop, we’ll give them a coupon for your store. What do you think?

They’ve done a similar before, with the daily turnover of both sides increasing. Therefore, Xu Lian straightforwardly replied: That’s fine. But I have a lot of orders this month. If there are too many customers, I might get too busy.

Boss Fu: That’s fine. I planned to start the promotion next month anyway. Strawberry season starts next month, and our store is going to launch several new products. We planned to promote things on Weibo first to get more exposure and hype.

Xu Lian: Alright, I’ll be delivering my orders before the end of the month, so next month shouldn’t be a problem.

Boss Fu: OK, I’ll draft a plan and send it your way.

Xu Lian: OK.

After Xu Lian had sent those two letters, she heard the chime ring downstairs. Zhang GuoEr was on vacation today, so Xu Lian put down her phone and went downstairs to greet the customer.

It was two young girls, looking like tourists to City A. They seemed very interested in Xu Lian’s works, and Xu Lian was patient as she introduced her products to them.

When the chime rang again, Xu Lian had thought it was her takeaway. But she guessed wrong.

It was four tough-looking men, dressed rough. As soon as they entered the store, they scared the two female customers silent.
