The First King of Beasts

Chapter 7 Getting Supplies (I)

Dustin wanted to tell his brother about the system and recent happenings, but he decided to leave it for the moment. Besides, he still didn't know whether his brother having the knowledge about it would put him in danger or not.

'I'll leave that for now. Let's focus on what's important first.'

At around 1:00pm, Dustin left the house. He had planned out a few things he wanted to do that day. He was going to visit Old cub and get some supplies and a few resources, then he would head out to do some experiments with his new skills.

"I remember the system saying that I had three innate skills. Why am I only seeing two now? No need to complain, I guess. I should be thankful for the ones I have."

Dustin wasted no time after exiting the complex he lived in. He headed straight for Old cub.

After some minutes of walking, he arrived at a compound. It had two men at the gate guarding it.

"Damn. Such a fine house in this slum area. This bastard is even has a compound. If anything were to happen, this place would be very well protected."

Dustin confidently walked up to the two by the gate since he knew them well. They were quite familiar with each other.

"Hey Dust! What brings you here?" One of the guards asked cheerfully. He was a middle-aged man with a bulky build, and had really fair skin like a lady, unlike Dustin, who had a darker skin.

"Viper! How are you doing? I came to see the boss. By the way, why are you the one stationed here?" 'Is something special happening today?' Dustin thought with curiosity.

Viper was a made guy and was high up in the ranks. He wasn't even under Old cub. He only came by Old cub's area from time to time to check up on him and assist in some tasks. Viper was one of the few that didn't condemn or bully Dustin. If it wasn't for the nature of his job, he could be considered a good guy.

"Mr. Douglas, is that you?"

"Get away kid, you're disturbing me." The other man wearing a cap said snobbishly.

"In a bad mood, as always. Although, Today seems extra."

"Haha, forget him. He was ordered to come help me guard this place till evening. Naturally, he feels it's degrading." Viper said, still wearing a smile on his face.

Dustin could tell that something was up, so he made a change in his plan. There was no need for him to risk it.. Even though he could fight against them now, Sil couldn't. There is absolutely no length such people wouldn't go just to bring their opponent down.

"Seems like things are serious. Maybe I'll come back later. I have something else that's important to do anyway."

"Ah, is that so? Ok then. See you later." Viper said as he waved Dustin off. Dustin did the same and left.

"The kid's grown well. He seems to have more sense now." Douglas said.

"Yeah. I hope he and his brother survive whatever is coming. They deserve to live."

Viper has always been kind towards Dustin. He always helped him whenever he could, be it monetary, when he was getting beat up or about to, and had even given him a few advises himself. If he were to live a normal life, he would be a completely good person.

Now that Dustin's plan had been offset, he started thinking of other ways to get supplies. He didn't want to raid any supermarket that had been shutdown or similar places, since there would be cameras in place. It wasn't worth the risk. So he thought of something else.

The new plan he came up with was to raid another group's storage. Groups are like gangs, but in a more organized way, almost like the mafia.

'I can't steal from the group that owns these parts, since if I do, it's still us who will suffer. I just visit a different one.'

As Dustin knew, there was a rival group's territory very close that almost chipped into the territory owned by the group that ran his area. 'That would do. It's close, and it will be easier to carry things compared to if I were to travel far.'

...

Walking would've taken more time, so Dustin ran all the way there. Apart from the fact that wanted to save time, he also wanted to exercise his body a little. Ever since he got the system, he felt like he had gotten physically better overall. Although he's body still looked malnourished and a bit scrawny, he's strength was different.

After running for a while, Dustin arrived at the other group's territory.

"It would be good if I hid myself until I got there."

With that, he activated his illusion skill as soon as he entered the area and continued running towards the location of the warehouse. As he moved through the street, he naturally saw some people from the other group around, but he didn't mind and kept moving. To them, nothing was suspicious. They couldn't see or hear him.

"This is it. I need to find a way inside though. It's locked."

Dustin went around the place, searching for a way for him to get in. After going round it, he couldn't find a direct way. The only possible way he found was an opening that served as a window of some sort, but it was too high up and he couldn't reach it. If he wanted to reach it, he would have to climb some nearby structures. Dustin wasn't really a parkour guy, neither was he so agile that he would be able to manoeuvre his way up.

'Is this really the only way?' Dustin thought. It was quite clear how hard and stressful it would be if he had to climb the thing.

Just then, as though the heavens took pity on him, a pickup truck drove in. It had some supplies in it. Seeing the truck approach, the person there opened the huge warehouse doors and the truck drove in.

'Jackpot.'

Dustin rushed in behind the truck, and with his illusion skill, it was like he wasn't even there. From the men's conversation, he determined that the next truck would arrive in about ten minutes, so he only had that much time to take whatever he wanted.

After offloading from the truck, it drove out, and the doors were locked once again.

'Now, it's time to get to work, and help these guys tidy this place up.'
