The General’s Vampire Omega

Chapter 19: Conclusions

"You go up first, I'll stay here for a while." Chu Feng instructed the police officer. After he left, he reached out his hand and naturally took Luo ZhouZhou’s, as he walked into the morgue.

The room was large and bright, with bleak white light beating down from overhead. A whole side of the wall was covered with dark blue freezers, neatly arranged in several tiers, with numbers on them.

It was cold and quiet.

"Scared?" Seeing Luo ZhouZhou looking at the cabinets, Chu Feng asked. His voice was low, but with an uncharacteristic gentleness.

"Huh?" Luo ZhouZhou was called back to his thoughts, shook his head and said, "I'm not afraid."

He was so focused on his hand that was being held that he didn't care about anything else.

Chu Feng's hand was warm and broad, wrapping his hand perfectly around it. Somehow, it made his heart beat a little faster, and he wanted to get away, but he didn't.

Chu Feng smiled, "Well, I'm not afraid either."

Afterwards, he took out two blue disposable protective suits from the clothing closet next to the door. He identified the model number on the protective clothing bag and said to himself, "Didn't I tell them to prepare the smallest one?"

Naturally, he let go of Luo ZhouZhou's hand. He went back to his closet and searched for the one he wanted. After he finally found it, he handed it to Luo ZhouZhou, and said, "Put it on."

Luo ZhouZhou felt his hand become empty, and the warmth of the forceful hand disappeared. He squeezed his hand, which was still warm, and took the protective suit.

As he was putting it on, he suddenly thought, He said to prepare a small one, did he know in advance that I would come?

Chu Feng was already dressed, threw a pair of gloves and a mask to Luo ZhouZhou, walked to the wall of freezers, selected several of them, and dragged them out one by one.

A dull chute sounded, and four rectangular freezers were pulled out, and a white fog rose up. When the fog cleared, Luo ZhouZhou saw naked, cold, young bodies lying in each of the rectangular cabinets.

Chu Feng stopped in front of each corpse for a moment and gazed at it silently. Then he looked at Luo ZhouZhou standing in the doorway and softly asked, "Do you want to come take a look?"

Luo ZhouZhou just wanted to stand here and wait for him, and was about to say that he would not watch, when he heard Chu Feng say again, "Don't be afraid, I'm with you."

His voice was soft and deep, like a hint of encouragement. Chu Feng fiddled with the terminal on his wrist, and the music slowly drifted out, a soft mezzo-soprano voice filling the room.

"It's an old song, it'll help you relax." He said.

Then, with his left hand behind his back, he extended his right hand to Luo ZhouZhou and bowed slightly.

It was a standard inviting gesture that made him look like an elegant and handsome gentleman.

For a moment, the surrounding freezers and bodies disappeared in Luo ZhouZhou's eyes, hidden in the darkness, and only the light that hit Chu Feng made him dazzlingly bright. His gentle, deep eyes and smiling lips, even in his ridiculous protective suit, did not detract from his handsomeness in any way.

The cold air became warm and sticky, and the smell of medicine no longer pungent to the nose. Luo ZhouZhou could hear his heart beating so loudly that even the song couldn’t drown it out.

It was pounding, pounding, pounding.

He didn't know what he was nervous about, he wasn't scared. But he was secretly looking forward to what would happen next. As if compelled, he slowly moved forward and placed his hand in the stretched out, open palm.

Chu Feng looked at him steadily for a few seconds before leading him to the first corpse and whispering gently, "Zhou Zhou, look at her."

The spell broke instantly and light returned to the area. The smell of the drug re-filled his nose, and the cold air broke goosebumps out on both of his arms.

Only the soft mezzo-soprano voice echoed through the room. Luo ZhouZhou looked at the body in the freezer with a sense of loss that he himself did not understand.

It was a young woman, her skin a lifeless blue-white from being in the freezer for several days. Her long wavy hair was dyed red, and her carefully painted fingernails showed that she was once a girl who loved life.

Now she lay quietly in a cold metal cabinet, her eyes open and gray, with a gaping cut on her neck and several bruises on her body.

"Her name is Lili Wang, a twenty-one-year-old female Omega who worked at a mall in Bayard. She was killed in a dark alley a few hundred meters from her home at 8:00 p.m. on September 18th. She was sexually assaulted and then had her carotid artery severed with a knife," Chu Feng said.

Amidst the song, Luo ZhouZhou was led to the next body.

Although he was listening to Chu Feng's story, he was distracted by the hand around his.

"His name was Andrew, a twenty-four-year-old male Omega who was an intern at a company. He was killed in the early morning hours of the night of September 21st, near the company, and the cause of death was the same as Wang Lili’s."

Chu Feng kept an eye on Luo ZhouZhou, and if he showed any signs of resistance, fear, or discomfort, he would immediately take him away. But surprisingly, he didn't show any uneasiness, and even seemed to be distracted by other thoughts.

"Zhou Zhou, Zhou Zhou?" Chu Feng called out softly.

Luo ZhouZhou came back to his senses, somewhat uncomfortably avoiding his gaze, and went to look at the body in front of him.

"He has the same bruises, put on his body after he died." He said, looking up at Chu Feng after just one glance at the body.

Chu Feng nodded, "Yes." He pointed to the other three bodies and said, "All of the victims had petechiae on their bodies, all within five minutes of death."

He looked at Luo ZhouZhou with a tone of unprecedented solemnity, "Zhou Zhou, I won't ask you why you know this, but please tell me, what do you know about Alinor, why did he do this?"

Luo ZhouZhou looked at Chu Feng's attentive and serious eyes and couldn't help but be dumbfounded. How was he going to make it clear that Alinor and the murderer here were not the same thing at all?

Neither of them spoke, but only the sound of singing grew stronger and stronger. It was an opera, and the female singer was telling the world about the injustice of fate. Her sorrow and anguish echoed through the morgue as she sang.

Chu Feng suddenly reached out and turned off the music, and the song came to an abrupt end.

In the sudden silence, if it weren't for the sound of their breathing, time would have seemingly stopped.

Luo ZhouZhou pursed his lips, gently broke Chu Feng's grip on his hand, and looked over the remaining bodies. He moved slowly around the freezer, and Chu Feng stood beside him, his eyes fixed on him.

"I'm sorry, but I've looked over the five bruises on each of them, and they have nothing in common with Alinor of my clan." After a moment, Luo ZhouZhou hardened his nerves.

Alinor sucked the blood out of people, and then left the letter "A", the initial of his name, on the bodies of those who had just died. But these people were all killed by knives, and the bruises on their bodies were of different shapes, so he couldn't tell even if they were a letter.

Chu Feng was slightly disappointed by his words, but then suddenly thought of something and asked quickly, "Five?"

Luo ZhouZhou nodded, "Yes, five each. I've looked at them all carefully, even the small bruise on each of their big toes."

Chu Feng flew over to a table and picked up the record book on it, "Zhou Zhou, the record book shows that only one of the bodies had five, the remaining three had only four bruises."

Luo ZhouZhou points his hand at cabinets 07, 05, and 01 and asks, "Are you talking about these three?"

Chu Feng tossed the record book back to his desk and replied, "Yes."

Luo ZhouZhou said, "They all still have an inconspicuous one on their chest."

When Chu Feng leaned over to look at it, he said with a bit of pride, "It was formed within five to ten minutes after death, so it's not obvious, only I can see it."

With his guidance, Chu Feng figured out where the invisible bruises were. After looking at it silently for a while, he turned to Luo ZhouZhou and spoke in a strange tone, "Zhou Zhou, it's a pentagon."

"A pentagon?" Luo ZhouZhou was a little confused, "Huh?"

Chu Feng smiled slightly and said, "If there really are bruises where you pointed out, it's a pentagon. Look." He pointed to cabinet 02 and said, "His bruises are on his chest and at the end of his limbs."

Luo ZhouZhou connected the bruises and drew a pentagon in the air with his finger.

Chu Feng continued, "The five on cabinet 02 are all on his arms, small but still pentagonal. Cabinet 05, the invisible bruises on the chest are connected to the ones on the abdomen and thighs. 01, the toes, forehead, chest and abdomen are connected. 02, the side waist." Chu Feng pointed out to Luo ZhouZhou one by one, "These all form a pentagon."

"Oh." Luo ZhouZhou nodded, but did not seem to understand.

Chu Feng raised his hand a little happily, as if to rub his head, but his eyes fell on the disposable glove and he put his hand back.

"Come on, let's go back up. You can take off your protective suit first." Chu Feng started pushing those freezers back, making a dull chute rolling sound.

Luo ZhouZhou took off his protective suit and stood outside the door, waiting for Chu Feng.

When Chu Feng came out, the two of them walked down the passage to the stairs. He suddenly spoke up, "The Alliance was only founded over twenty years ago. You know history, right?"

Luo ZhouZhou wanted to say he wasn't sure, but when he saw Chu Feng with a somewhat derisive look in his eyes, he shut his mouth again.

"I think Zhou Zhou is aware, but I'll say it again," Chu Feng said. "Over the centuries, the Imperial Church slowly rose to prominence, developing a variety of different sects that fell over each other to compete for power. By more than a hundred years ago, the imperial family had become a puppet of the church in name only. Among the many churches, a group of cultists who believed in Olin's True Religion grew rapidly, finally destroying the other churches and taking control of the imperial government."

"The Olin Truth Church believes in the evil god Hellas and advocates the strong. They believe that resources should be given to the strong, and that mankind's own weakness and illnesses are the punishment of Hellas for the weak. Therefore, anyone who suffered from a disease that could not be easily cured was put to death so as not to waste resources."

Chu Feng paused and stopped walking. He looked ahead, his light brown eyes taking on the compassion and sadness that Luo ZhouZhou had seen once before.

"There is a disease on our planet, and those who have it will develop wrinkles and turn their hair white within a few days. The back begins to hunch over, and the whole body resembles a dried orange peel. Most importantly, the organs of the body also develop all kinds of lesions, and in just a few months, they will age beyond recognition, and in a year at most, they will die like a real old person."

Luo ZhouZhou froze in his tracks, as Chu Feng had said this when he tried to get the secret of Methuselah.

Chu Feng continued, "Zhou Zhou, you remember correctly, I described this disease the last time. It's the most terrible disease in the world, but it has the most beautiful name — Sunset Face."

Luo ZhouZhou looked at him in a daze and thought, So his banter at that time was real, as well as his sadness.
