The Messenger of Death

Chapter 12: goodbye

"What is it that I am feeling then?" Alex asked.

"What you are feeling now is like a recognition stage. You understand enough to connect with weapons not enough to communicate and understand their capabilities." Granoss explained.

Alex still felt good. To him, this was one of the few good things that have happened to him since he arrived here.

"So what now? Are you going to give me some pointers on how to use these abilities?"

After asking that question, Alex could see that the facials of Grace and his predecessors change.

"Alex our time is already up. If we try to stay any longer, we might destroy our souls and not have any chance of reincarnation. Using the forbidden technique to extend our stay here already means that we are forfeiting our chances to reincarnate into higher beings, at this moment we are not sure if we can reincarnate as humans." Daemon said as he forced a smile.

"It is time that we leave brothers. I hope that in our next life, no matter what we reincarnate as we would remain brothers. From the beginning to the end we have had each other's backs. I hope to have you watching my back in the next life." Granoss said.

"Big brothers. I a-also hope that we would be brothers in the next life." Voss said as a tear dropped from his nonexistent eye.

"Do not cry little brother, we have lived a full life filled with love, family, laughter, and joy. We shared almost everything. We have enjoyed what this life has to offer, most of all we found a successor." Granoss said as he consoled Voss. Daemon went ahead and held Voss by his shoulder.

"Brothers, it is not the idea of me dying that makes me sad, but the idea of losing you guys. There is every possibility that we wouldn't be brothers in our next life. I have been blessed enough to have you guys in this life." Voss said as he placed his head on Daemons.

Granoss walked over to where his brothers were and placed his head on theirs. They stayed in that position.

Alex watched and listened to what they said. He felt like he could relate to them. His heart, felt pity for them.

'What is with this feeling? Come on, I don't feel pity, I am a cold-blooded killer.' Alex shook his head trying to reprimand himself for feeling pity.

He started to feel rage.

'They were put in this situation by their fourth brother. Someone they used to trust with their lives. But he betrayed them. Just like Kain, people like him deserve to die.'

Alex started to release his killing intent, he wanted to kill Kain and their fourth brother.

"I will exact revenge for you brothers," Alex said in a stern voice.

The Dragnel brothers turned and faced Alex. They respectively burst into flames, lightning and darkness covered the brothers. The occurring phenomenon grew bigger.

The flames that covered Voss started to morph and a red gigantic snake-like being appeared. His scales looked like magma, he had flames as eyebrows and a red vertical slit pupil. He was covered in brilliant flames.

The darkness that covered Daemon also morphed into a gigantic snake. His scales looked like the dark night sky with blinking stars. His eyes were bright white. It was like he was the phrase 'star gazing'. Every twist left a crack in the void.

Granoss also morphed, he was covered in magnificent streaks of purple lightning, and it was like his whole body was made of lightning. He had a purple vertical split pupil, purple streaks of lightning spilled out of his pupils...

They all had the aura of dominance radiating out of them.

"We do not want you to avenge us, we only wish for you to make us proud. Bring honor to our blood." The Dragnel brothers all said at the same time. They spoke as one.

The independent space that they were in, collapsed. The whole scenery changed. They were now in a flourishing forest. Alex looked at his feet and how it looked comfortable in the warm soil. The air here was very much refreshing to Alex. The air was better than the artificial oxygen he used to inhale in his world.

'Is this what nature smells like? Why did humans destroy something like this back on Earth?' Alex couldn't understand why.

"Grace I would have loved to spend more time with you, but it seems like I wouldn't be able to anymore," Granoss said as he looked at Grace with affection present in his gaze.

Grace's eyes were already red. She looked like she was about to cry, but she held her tears in. She swallowed the lump of emotion stuck in her throat.

"To love for a second is better than n-not loving a-at all." Grace tried to say bravely but her voice gave in and she stuttered at the end.

"Grace free yourself from my burdens. I know how proud and stubborn you are."

'Seems like even the powerful cannot control who they fall in love with. They love each other even when they know that they cannot easily produce a child.' Alex sighed inwardly.

The Dragnel brothers gave a nod and said together.

"Goodbye Grace, Alex. Do not disappoint me, successor." They turned their gaze and looked at each other.

"Goodbye, my brothers." They said to their selves.

"ROAR!!!!"

They gave a loud roar and it was as if the world roared with them. The ground started to shake, trees started to dance to the music of the heavy wind caused by the roar of the Dragnel brothers. Alex could hear the roar of other creatures from angles that he couldn't locate. The roar didn't stop, it only got louder, and for the first time, Alex felt what their existence and power stood for. He felt the dominance that flowed in their blood.

The Dragnel brother started to move in a clockwise motion up in the air above Alex and Grace. With Voss at the front, Daemon behind him, and then Granoss after Daemon. Suddenly the roar from Voss started to get weaker. Voss had started to disintegrate. It only took a few seconds for Voss to completely disintegrate into nothing but sparkling dust that also seemed to be disappearing from the world.

"ROAR!!!! ROAR!!!"

Daemon and Granoss gave a roar that was louder than the previous ones. The roar was strong enough to destroy Alex. Alex felt a power shielding him, it was Grace, but still, his ears hurt from the roar.

Daemon also started to disintegrate, he ceased his roar and turned to look at Granoss one last time. Granoss stared back at his brother. They had both come to a pause. More than half of Daemon's body had disappeared.

"Goodbye, my broth…" Daemon completely disintegrated before he could complete his sentence.

Granoss looked down at Grace and Alex once more and smiled. Showing his devastating canines that looked like they used mountains as chewing toys. Granoss shot up into the sky. As he started to disintegrate he roared and this time purple lightning covered the whole sky. The lightning gathered around Granoss and it looked like they were there to send their master off.

"BOOM!!!"

A loud explosion occurred after Granoss had completely disintegrated. It was as if the lightning was grieving.

"Goodbye Granoss, Daemon, Voss," Grace said as she shut her eyes close, trying to hold her tears in.

"The forbidden technique they used to extend their lives refused them a death with any remains, not even a spec of them remains." She added.

"They watched their backs up until the end," Alex said.

At the moment he felt jealousy, respect, and also anger. He was jealous because he didn't have anyone to call a brother, someone that could do what the three Dragnel brothers had done for their selves. He felt respect because they stayed true to their brotherhood till the end. Loyalty is a trait that is scarce. He felt angry because of the Dragnel fourth brother. He wondered what sort of greed made him betray such brotherhood.

'Is this how people felt after I have killed someone they cared about or respected.' Alex thought to himself.

He knew that he had killed good people. He killed anyone that he was asked to kill in the past. For the first time, Alex was questioning his morals.

'Is this what they call Karma?' He thought about Sheila and the Dragnel brothers.

Alex felt some kind of connection with the Dragnel brothers, he blamed it on the blood that they gave him.. it made him feel like he had lost his close ones again.

"Sheila," Alex said as he was deep in his thoughts.

"Do you intend on keeping the promises you made to Sheila?" Grace asked with her back facing Alex.

Alex dropped his head down and started at Grace's shadow. He knew that she had just gone through what he had went through. Losing one's beloved. Grace was a lot more subtle and composed than Alex was when he lost Sheila.

"Yes, I do. I intend to keep the promises that I made with Sheila." He replied.

"Then you have no intention of killing Kain anymore?"

"I didn't make any promise about not getting my revenge. I will surely exact my revenge. One way or another. I will kill Kain and destroy Death's Door." He said firmly with a determined gaze in his eyes.

Grace sighed. She turned and faced another direction.

"Camilla, you can come out now. We have to leave this area. The Dragnel brothers caused a huge commotion. A lot of middle and lower realms must have felt their dominance. People with a bit of strength might be heading our way. It's better if they don't see you two." Grace said.
