The Messenger of Death

Chapter 28: orphan

It took Camron a few seconds to understand what Alex meant.

'I knew it, my father is not this kind.'

"If you don't want me here just say so and I will leave, you don't need to pretend to want me here," Alex added, he turned his gaze and looked at Lawrence.

"What, no. Father." Camron pleaded.

"Lawrence," Ivy said sternly.

"That's enough."

Lawrence commanded his staff. A butler with straight thick-black hair, an oval-shaped face, and a few strands of grey on his head; clapped his hands once.

-Clap!

Alex felt the QI that had been trying to restrict him lessen, and gradually it subsided.

"Young friend Alexander. I apologize, they got carried away. Please don't take it the wrong way." Lawrence said sincerely.

['Is this guy that good at acting? He clearly knew, but he still acts like he didn't, so did his family. They know but act like they didn't.']

['No Alex, not all of them knew. Lawrence, the two young men sitting at the dining and the girl beside you. Those are the people that knew. The rest are too weak to notice anything.'] Xander cleared out.

"Sir Alexander, please do not be offended.." Ivy pleaded also.

'Hearing Camron's mother apologize feels a lot better than hearing it from Lawrence.'

"Just call me Alex. I don't favor formalities." He said to Ivy.

"Alex it is."

A soothing voice that Alex didn't recognize called out his name. He turned his attention to where the voice had come from.

It was the girl that was sitting next to Alice Avanti that spoke.

"Hi, nice to meet you, Alex. My name is Sara Avanti, the fourth child of the Avanti family." She flashed a blinding smile at Alex.

['Now this looks like someone I want to talk to.'] Al commented.

"Sure."

Alex said with a straight face as he ignored Al's comment. He was about to resume eating when he heard her speak again.

"What is your real cultivation realm?" She asked.

"Excuse me? Haven't you already probed my realm?"

"Yes, I have. Fifth-rank origin realm right? But that can't be correct. You just said they tried to restrain you." She pointed at the staff standing behind her.

"From what I know the weakest staff here is at the third-rank of the disaster realm, now either you have something on you that is concealing your actual cultivation level or you are just way above our level that we can't probe into it. Or you have a bloodline class. So, which of them is it?"

Alex stared at her for a handful of seconds, then he turned his attention back to his food. Everyone in the room was anticipating an answer. What Sara had said was what they were also curious about.

Seeing Alex ignore her like that, disappointed them.

"Hahaha." Camron gave a short laugh. Then he said;

"Alex has a bloodline class, although I'm not sure of his class. He is also an Etruscan runes master and a nonpareil." He casually listed.

Alex didn't mind that Camron was telling them what he refused to say. He let him say it instead.

Everyone in the room had an expression of shock on their faces, including the staff.

"Stop spewing lies to cover up for your friend Camron," Benjamin warned.

"How can he be an Etruscan runes master at this age? That is preposterous." Oliver denied.

"How can I not be an Etruscan runemaster at this age? Do I look average to you?" Alex arrogantly said.

"Really? Then prove it. Right here and now." Arabella who was sitting next to Alex suggested.

He turned to his side and stared at her expressionless face. She handed him a glass-wine cup.

"Here, do something with this."

Alex had been staring at her for a while now, they have made eye contact for over a minute.

['Kiss the damn girl already if you're going to keep on passionately staring at her'] Al voiced his annoyance.

"Alright then." Alex collected the cup from her.

['Do you need my help, Alex? We can switch and I can help you with it.'] Lex suggested.

'And have you embarrass me?'

['No need, I'll do it myself.']

Alex closed his eyes and repeated the same movements he did when he reinforced the window of the carriage.

As moved his index, a blue neon light followed his movement.

At this moment, everyone in the room was convinced. Even if he is not successful in his inscription, just this alone was a feat that those below the Etruscan level cannot perform.

"Enforce" Alex uttered.

A transparent veil-like object appeared from thin air and started to cover the cup. As soon as it completely covered the cup, Alex let the cup drop from his grip.

-Clunk!

The cup dropped on the table. It sounded like a rock hitting wood. The cup was undamaged.

The whole room became quiet. All eyes were on the cup that Alex dropped. Now the rest of the Avanti family and the staff had a bit of respect for Alex.

"Are you sure that you are an orphan? If you are then you must have been raised by some powerhouse organization right?" Sara asked as she gave Alex a questioning look, trying to confirm her speculations. She found it hard to believe.

['This b*tch is asking for it.'] Alex fumed.

['Calm down Alex. It wouldn't be wise to attack anyone here. There are many strong individuals here that we can't beat.'] Xander cautioned.

['That's true. I think it would be better if you left the room. To avoid doing anything stupid.'] Lex advised.

-Scrape!

The sound of the chair rubbing against the ground echoed out. Alex got up and made his way to the entrance of the dining hall. He left the vicinity.

"Alex," Camron called out.

He turned to his sister, Sara, and said;

"You shouldn't have said that. He really is an orphan." He got up and was about to go after Alex.

"Camron." He stopped when he heard his father call.

"Meet me in my study in an hour." His father commanded.

"Yes, father," Camron replied.

"Reginald," Lawrence called out.

The butler with the oval-shaped face from before stepped forward and said;

"I am here Sir."

"Keep an eye on him," Lawrence said.

"As you wish."

Reginald the butler put his right hand on his chest and bent his head down.

"Is that necessary father?" Camron questioned.

Lawrence ignored Camron and resumed eating. Camron looked at his mother, Ivy. He gave her a pleading look.

She smiled and said;

"Don't worry too much about it. Go and meet your friend."

"Thank you, mother." He walked over to her side and kissed her on her cheeks.

"Camron. Be careful." He heard Arabella warn before he left the dining.

Putting what his sister said at the back of his mind Camron went after Alex.

************

Alex returned to the mini-forest, he was at the pond area once more. He didn't know why but he felt like coming here would be better than going to his room.

['I'm sorry Alex. I just wanted you to interact with other people. I didn't expect it go this way.'] Lex apologized.

['Please, that's enough Sorry for one night.'] Alex replied.

['Let me just sit here in silence.'] He added.

He sat there with his eyes closed, feeling himself getting calmer as he listened to the crickets chirp and the frogs' croak.

'This feeling of nature, I've never felt anything like this before. There's too much disparity between natural and artificial. I wonder why humans thought they could recreate another Earth on Mars and other planets. It is too surreal.'

Alex was enjoying the music of nature.

['This could be a new hobby of mine.']

['I Second that.'] His alters chorused.

A few minutes passed by…

"Alex." He heard Camron call.

'Why? Why? Why? Why?' Alex cried in his mind.

'God. I really want to punch this parrot on his throat. But I will need their help for that.. Arrgh forget about it.' He fumed.

"What!?" Alex answered in frustration.

"Just leave me alone. I need silence. Please."

"Oh, alright." Camron got himself a chair too and sat down beside him.

"I'm sorr…" before he could complete his sentence he got interrupted.

"That's enough apologies for tonight goddamn it. Can't everybody just keep their parrot hole shut!!" Alex said aggressively.

"Okay," Camron said.

"I will be leaving here tomorrow, your family is too welcoming for my liking. I have never felt such love." Alex mocked.

"I am very so…" He was interrupted again.

"And don't you dare apologize," Alex interjected.

['Woo, you on fire boy.'] Al commented.

"Shut the f*ck up Al!!" Alex shouted out

Camron was caught unprepared.

"Who is Al?" He asked.

['Haaa, you are going loco now Alex.'] Al joked.

"Arrgh!!" Alex vented out.

['Calm down Alex. Al be silent for a while.'] Lex said.

"Are you okay Alex?" Camron probed?

"No, I'm not. I am going crazy. Interacting with human beings is an issue!! To the extent that I hear voices in my head!! Damn!!"

Alex poured out his heart.
